Stunning walks and views from this little-known spot on the western edge of the AONB

This picnic site is a gem!

It’s just next door to Morgans Hill nature reserve (managed by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust) from where you can see incredible views of Cherhill Down and the plains of north Wiltshire. The reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its orchids, butterflies and for the general quality of chalk grassland and wildflowers.  It’s also a great place to see custard-yellow cowslips in April and May.

Walking routes take you from Small Grain through the folded pleats of Calstone Down and over to the Lansdowne Monument or the Cherhill White Horse if you fancy a fair hike!

Take care turning into the car park – drivers tend to go a bit fast here unfortunately!
