How We Are Funded

We receive the vast majority of our funding from DEFRA (Department for the Environment and Rural Affairs), along with contributions from local district, county and borough councils where the National Landscape lies within their jurisdiction.

The DEFRA contribution provides 75% of our core budget. For a detailed breakdown of our income, including the amounts contributed by all our funders, please see our latest Annual Review.

For some projects, we also bid for grant funding and support from other organisations. For example, our Sparkling Streams partnership project was funded by £400K from the Government’s Nature Recovery Challenge Fund following our successful bid in December 2020.
