Highclere Castle

Otherwise known as Downton Abbey!

Seat of the Carnarvon family and well-known as television’s Downton Abbey, this ‘Jacobethan’ house is home to some of Egypt’s finest treasures from the 5th Earl’s exploration with Howard Carter in the 1920s when he uncovered the tomb of Tutankhamun.

The house and gardens are open to the public on a seasonal basis and there are also some walks through the estate.  Find the Heavens Gate for a stunning view of the Castle.

Climb nearby Beacon Hill for views across Hampshire and Berkshire and also to visit the 5th Earl’s grave.
