The events listed below are Countryside Days for Schools in venues in and close to the North Wessex Downs AONB. Large numbers of pupils can be catered for, ranging from four to 10 classes each day.
Please feel free to book a whole year group. Twilight briefing sessions are held before all the Countryside Days to enable teachers to receive vital information and undertake risk assessments.

Explore arable crops, see lambing, find out how cows are milked at Northington Farm, Overton.
The Trinley Estate, Finkley farms to encourage biodiversity. Enjoy the day finding out more about arable crops and woodland management.
Visit Manydown near Binley to find out how farming and the countryside are managed to maintain employment, produce food and enhance the countryside. See shearing and spinning.
Explore organic production at Laverstoke Park, Overton. Chickens, sheep, water buffalo and wild boar are reared on the farm. Healthy soil means healthy animals, and food for healthy people.
Meet the shepherd at the Highclere Estate, south of Newbury. Find out what gamekeepers do to manage deer and game birds. Learn about crops and explore Highclere Castle's gardens.
Faccombe Manor Estate is another location where children can find out about gamekeeping, forestry, sheep and crop production. Take a tractor and trailer ride to the estate's wind turbine.
The 2,500 acre estate at West Woodhay near Newbury balances the needs of commercial food production with improving the landscape for wildlife. |
