Learning is fun out in the country!
Make the most of the outdoor classroom in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
These pages are designed to help teachers find
farms and estates in the North Wessex Downs where school-children can go for educational visits.
Take a few minutes to search by county for farms and estates near your school. Each entry has information about
- activities you can see and do on the farm
- suitable age groups and support for teachers
Check this page regularly for
News and Events specially created for teachers.
Farmers or members of their staff will guide visitors around the farms. Please discuss your requirements with a member of staff from the farm so that your school visit can be designed to meet your requirements and curriculum targets.
Facilities will vary from farm to farm. Some provide opportunities to see livestock and farming in action, others have interesting countryside with wildlife or historic features and other attractions.
Resources for teachers are available on the
FACE website. Comprehensive resources are tailored to the National Curriculum, and connected with the
Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto.
This website is linked to the
Year of Food and Farming. Click for
South East regional activities. The Year of Food and Farming, launched in September 2007, aims to re-capture children’s imagination about food and how it is produced, and set up new partnerships between thousands of schools and farms during the course of the Year.
Hampshire Country Learning, based at Sparsholt College created these pages as part of the Countryside Education Network project to encourage more farmers to host school visits, and enable teachers to take children into the countryside.
The project includes
CEVAS training for farmers, in-school sessions with teachers, and teacher-training sessions.
The Countryside Education Network project website is funded by
North Wessex Downs AONB Sustainable Development Fund. Hampshire Country Learning is funded by a range of sponsors listed on the
website.
Information is provided on these pages by
